Jose R. Iribarren

Naval Architect. Universidad Politecnica of Madrid. After having worked for CEDEX (Ministry of Public Works) ,where he was responsible for the acquisition and implementation of the first autopilot manoeuvring model in Spain and the first Spanish real-time bridge simulator, he founded Siport21 In June 1999. As Managing Director he manages, plans and implements corporate policies and strategies. In addition, he supervises operations within the company and monitors business goals achievement.

Iribarren is specialized in studies on moored ship dynamics and ship manoeuvrability in port areas, both using numerical models and scale models. He also studies wave penetration in port areas using scale model tests and “Fast-time” and real time simulation of ship manoeuvres. Currently, he continues conducting studies as a researcher in these fields, which results are frequently published.


In 1998 he obtained the “Gustave Willems Award” of PIANC for the study entitled “Determining the horizontal dimensions of ship manoeuvring areas. General recommendations and simulator studies”. This is an International Award for young engineers and professionals within Maritime and Coastal Engineering and Maritime Transport industry. In 1997 he obtained the “Modesto Vigueras Award”, the corresponding National Award from the Spanish Section of PIANC.

He complements his professional activity imparting lectures in different masters degrees and courses and taking part in many conferences regarding Naval Engineering and ships behaviour, both nationally and internationally .
