Manoeuvrability Analysis for the Fertilizer’s Terminal in Arzew’s Bay

Location: Arzew, Algeria
Client: Proes Engineering Consulting Firm, Suhail Bahwan, Epa, Sonatrach

Project Objectives:

  • Study the viability of maritime access for three reference vessels to the planned fertilizer’s terminal in Arzew’s Bay, considering the navigation area and maneuvering area dimensions, both under normal and emergency situations.

Thereference vessel models were:

  • a Chemical tanker 10.000 DWT,  150 m length
  • a Chemical tanker 30.000 DWT, 207 m length
  • A Chemical tanker 60.000 DWT,  230 m length

Tools and Methodology

The analysis was conducted using Siport’s 21 Real Time Bridge Simulator. The analysis was carried out following the methodology described by PIANC (International Navigation Association) as well as in the Spanish Port Authority Recommendation ROM 3.1-99 “Maritime Recommendations for the Design of Port Access and Manoeuvring Areas”.
