Tema Port Pilots carry out a Training Programme in Siport21 for the first LNG Terminal in Ghana

In the face of the imminent start-up of the first LNG Import Terminal of Ghana in the Port of Tema, to be managed by Reganosa, Local Pilots are carrying out a training programme with the new maritime traffic, LNG carriers, in Siport21 Ship Manoeuvring Simulation Center. The new Terminal is the first import facility in the country and sub-Saharan Africa.

Reganosa will operate and maintain the new Terminal as part of its international expansion process. Tema LNG terminal is an innovative infrastructure, as both its storage (FSU) and regasification (FRU) units are floating and independent. For the new facilities, the breakwater was extended, and a new outer basin built.

The aim of the training courses is the familiarization of Local Pilots with the navigation conditions and manoeuvring strategies of the new LNG traffic calling at the Terminal. Sessions will include both normal and emergency scenarios with LNG carriers corresponding to the expected fleet. Manoeuvres with the FSU will also be included.

The manoeuvres will be performed involving Pilots from the port and will be carried out using Siport21 real-time manoeuvring simulator (DNV-GL approved). This Center reopened its in-person activity in June of 2020, following the health authority recommendations related to preventing COVID.

This new project will add to 70 LNG Terminals -39 FSRU and 3 FLNG- spread in 31 countries where the company has already worked.
